DUTCH BRAID HAIRSTYLE TUTORIAL

What you need:

• comb or brush
• small clear hair elastic

How to get the look:

1. This hairstyle works in straight, wavy and curly hair. Braids hold better in hair that has a little texture. If your hair is freshly washed or slips out of braids easily, spray some dry shampoo lightly to add some texture.
2. Start by parting your hair in a deep side part and then separating a 1-2 inch section of hair along your hairline. You can clip or tie the rest of your hair out of the way.
3. Start with a small section by your part and split it into three.
4. Begin to form a Dutch braid that follows your hairline. Bring the left section under the middle then the left under the right.
5. Start adding in hair to your braid by combining more hair with the left and right sides as you braid under into the middle.
6. Continue braiding to your ear and then finish your braid and secure the end with a small, clear hair elastic. Or choose an elastic that matches your hair colour.
7. Stretch the braid out! It’s so important and makes your braid look much thicker and wider.

HALF CROWN BRAID

            

Step-by-step

You’ll need two small clear hair elastics and bobby pins to do the half crown braid in your hair.

1. Start by taking a 1-2 inch section of hair on one side of your hair above your ear. Split this section in three and make a braid (plait).
2. Angle the braid back around your head and secure the end of the braid with a small clear hair elastic.
3. Repeat on the other side, taking a section above your ear and making a braid (plait). Secure the end with a small clear elastic.
4. Bring the first braid across the back of your head and pin in place with bobby pins.
5. Cross the second braid over the first and tuck the end in behind the first braid. Secure in place with bobby pins.

HAIR ROMANCE BRAID 

       

Step-by-step

This style can be done in curly or straight hair. Adding in some curl will make the waterfall sections blend in better with your hair. I’ve used a 25mm curling wand to create this curl in my hair.

1. Start by sectioning off hair a two inch section of hair on your right side. Split the section into three equal pieces and begin your plait (braid).
2. Form your braid as normal, crossing the left over the middle and the right over the left. When you cross over the third piece, drop a section free from the braid and let it hang down.
3. Repeat down the braid (plait), dropping a piece loose from every section that crosses over from the top. You’ll end up with a braid as in the third picture. Secure the end with an elastic.
4. Repeat on the left hand side, creating another waterfall plait and secure the end with a clear elastic.
5. Use bobby pins to pin the braids (plaits) across the back of your head in a low half-crown hairstyle. Pin one braid across and then tuck the ends of the second braid behind the first and pin in place.
